Photography has become a great aspect of my life. It helps me see the world in a different way; I've noticed the beauty in small things that usually go unnoticed throughout everyone's busy life styles. Some say, if you look at what people take pictures of, then you know what they're afraid of losing. This is absolutely true, think about what the world would be like if there were no trees, sky, people, family, food, plants (both living and dead)... The list can go on and on. To me photography helps me express myself. I'm not much for a lot of words, but I hope that one day my pictures will be able to express what I can't say. A picture is truly worth a thousand words, and sometimes those thousand words can change a person and how they view the world around them.
I've recently came across this quote from Berenice Abbott, a photographer, "Photography can only represent the present. Once photographed the subject becomes part of the past." This is one of the main reasons why I love photography, once you snap a picture, you will always hold a precious moment of the past. Without photography, it would be hard to remember specific details about an event or the joy expressed on a grandparent's face when they hold their grandchild for the first time. Unlike memories, photography doesn't lie. Photography has the unique ability to freeze a setting for eternity, it never changes, and will remain exactly how you last saw it.
Sometimes in our busy lives, it is nice to take some time to slow down and flip through albums or pictures and see what life was like when we were much younger, because no matter how much we may have changed throughout the years, we can always reflect on the past that never changes.
